Eating Out

Cliff and I are big homebodies, it takes a lot of work to get us out of the house past 8 o'clock. Last night we had our first 9 p.m. dinner, like mature, young urbanites (although we're technically young suburbanites). We had reservations for 9:15 p.m. at Cucina Urbana. We had tried coming to Cucina Urbana on two separate occasions, but we had no luck without a reservation. We arrived at 8:50 in order to have drinks at the bar. Being a huge fan of Moscow Mules I decided to try their Tequila Mule, with jalapeno infused tequila (Tequila and Jalapenos in one drink, sign me up!). Let me tell you the drink did not disappoint, in fact it's my new favorite drink, yum yum. Unfortunately we were not seated until 9:35, but the manager was kind enough to comp our drinks because or our wait. I don't hold it against them, it was restaurant week and the place was packed. I must say I felt very grown-up starting dinner past 9:30. Any who, it goes with out saying that the food was delicious. One of my new year resolutions was to eat less red meat, so I opted for the seafood options instead for the veal and short ribs. I'm happy to say my shrimp puttanesca was wonderful, with a hint of capers. I can't wait to go back and try their pizzas and another tequila mule (or two).

The Ace handed out Kazoos and noise makers. Somehow the noise makers sounded a lot louder when I used then at home.

We had a fantastic time at the Ace Hotels End of the World party, they had a party hat making station... that seriously rose the bar for any future new years eve party. Cliff and I love it at the Ace and when we heard they were having a NYE party we high tailed our booties there! The weather was perfect, 80-75 degrees all weekend. I can't wait to go back to Palm Springs, it's super magical.

THE SONG

Okay to preface, when I was in 7th grade and 12 years old I would watch VHI and wait for them to play and re-play Bryan Adams's (Everything I do) I do it for you (mind you this was 1994-1995 and the song was about 4 years old, but still) and dream of my crush and swear that the day I got married my future husband and I would dance to this as our first song. Well eventually the years went by and I, alas did marry and did not dance to (Everything I do) I do it for you, but it still gives me that 7th grade me that special feeling (sad I know). Also the guitar solo in the middle of the song always makes me bust out my air guitar (c'mon, you know you do it too).

P.S. How awesome is the bad-assery that is Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham in this video. 7th grade me still gets goosebumps when Robin Hood crashes through the window and save Maid Marion as she is being attacked. Embarrassed to say I still swoon at this... geesh.

Georgia on my mind

We went back to Georgia last week, we had a beautiful time visiting family and eating, eating a lot.
I wish I had take pictures of the actual food we had at the Jekyl Island brunch, but I was in too much of a rush to eat. Also we stopped by Georgia BBQ institution the Georgia Pig. We had all sorts of goodies there. Again in such a rush to shove food in my mouth that I didn't take pictures, another reason I started this blog (remember to enjoy the small stuff). Although I wasn't a big fan of the actual BBQ, I LOVED their banana cream pudding (Gosh, I wish I had some right now).

Now this picture wasn't taken at the Georgia Pig, but it was taken in Georgia. Apparently the fried bologna biscuit was so popular, IT'S BACK! (no offense to those that enjoy fried bologna biscuits).

Our last breakfast at The ACE before hitting the road back home. Feta Cheese and Zucchini frittata and sour cream pancakes.

It's starting to get cold in San Diego, which makes me long for hot summer days. In August we spent a very relaxing weekend in Palm Springs. Although it was about 105 degrees in the shade, I cannot wait to go back and breathe in the heat.
